Christmas Crafts

As many of you know by now, the girls in my family get together about once a month for a craft day. It's always a great day with lots of laughing and so many beautiful creations.

There were so many ideas for Christmas crafts that we had to have two craft days in November.

I'm going to show you a few of the things made and a quick run down on how you can do it too.

Make your own dinner set:
You have probably been living under a rock if you haven't seen this idea online recently.

Red Velvet Christmas Cake

It is officially December! Woohoo! I have been waiting months to get my Christmas on and I am so excited I can hardly contain it. I can't wait to paint my nails with Christmas designs, to put up our Christmas tree and all our Christmas decorations and of course to start my Christmas cooking.

Snickers Brownies

I know I have gone a little brownie mad at the moment. Shockingly enough there hasn't been a cupcake in my kitchen for weeks now.

Aussie Burgers

Occasionally I have a craving for a fast food burger. A nice fat, juicy, saucy burger with a side of golden french fries. We all know that fast food burgers look nothing like they do in the commercials.

Pumpkin and Feta Pasta Bake

The days are getting warmer. While this means weekends spent outside having bbqs and eating salads while enjoying the extra hour of sunshine it also means midweek cooking can become slightly more of a hassle.

Breakfast Cups

Lately I have been feeling really overwhelmed and unorganised. Unfortunately my pride and joy that is this wonderful blog has suffered as a result. Never fear though, I have managed to line up some amazing posts over the next few weeks. In the meantime my beautiful sister asked if she could so a little guest post and I was more than happy to oblige.

Cheesecake Brownie Slice

My mum has a beautiful tea set. It used to belong to her Grandmother. It takes pride of place in a hutch in her kitchen. They are lovely mismatched delicate tea cups and saucers. As a little girl I saw this tea set taken out when ladies were coming over for afternoon tea or when my Nan was visiting.

Chilli con carne

This is probably the last comfort food post that will be going up before the weather starts really warming up and we shift our focus onto some leaner (but equally delicious) meals to help lose the winter weight.

Chicken and Vegetable Laksa

Finally winter has officially come to an end. I can already see myself relaxing in the sunshine, feet in the sand, smell of sunscreen on my skin and an icy cold drink in hand.

Kangaroo Steak with Braised Red Cabbage and Crispy Potatoes

Here it is. The best dish I have ever cooked. It was unbelievably delicious, and in spite of the fact I will be drooling the entire time I am writing this, I have decided this was just too good not to share with you all.

Pork Gyozas

Pork Gyozas (or Pot Stickers) are little Japanese style dumplings that are packed full of flavour. Deceptively easy to make and you don't even need a bamboo steamer.

Vegetarian Pad See Ew

When I mentioned this recipe to my sister, she screwed her nose up in disgust. Tofu?!? I think she represents most peoples opinion when it comes to tofu.

Rich Tomato Pie with Sour Cream Mash

It's hard to believe that we still have a whole month (and a bit) of winter left. That's another 37 days of frost bitten mornings, grey afternoons and the occasional rainy night.

Creamy Salmon Pasta

We are smack bang in the middle of winter. I have begun to notice many people starting to become aware of the extra kilos that have snuck on. Myself included.

Craft - Magnetic Make-up Board

Craft day again. I would love to be able to do craft day more than once a month because there are so many brilliant things I want to make but life gets busy and before I know it a whole month has rolled around.

Raspberry, Cranberry and Strawberry Friands

Raspberry, Cranberry and Strawberry Friands. Gosh! What a mouthful that was. Luckily these little delicate cakes speak for themselves.

Spiced Pumpkin Muffins

I have always been rather curious when it comes to the American tradition of pumpkin pie. Something that I have grown up knowing as a savoury food being treated as a dessert? Sounds odd to me.

Reuben Sandwich

I mentioned in the post for corned beef that I had an ulterior motive for finally making it. And this is it. The Reuben Sandwich.

Corned Beef (Silverside)

Its not the most appealing looking dish so you will have to let your taste buds deicde.
Corned Beef, also known as Silverside or as a guy I used to work with called it 'Red Gum'. In theory, when you think about it, its beef that is essentially poached. Sounds kind of gross right?

Coconut Raspberry Slice

I have heard my Mum say a few times recently that my Nans coconut raspberry slice was one of her favourites.

Caremlized Pumpkin and Onion Pizza

I will be the first to admit that in some cases I am a total glutton. Another ladle of pasta sauce? Sure. Drench my ice cream in topping? Hell yeah! Hot chips drowning in tomato sauce and vinegar? OMG Yes!

Five Spice Meatballs in Plum Sauce

I have recently had a few people ask for some diabetes friendly recipes. Diabetes seems to be one of those problems that has become increasingly common in Australia.

Craft - Mini Heat Pack Owls

The girls in my family (well a few of us) have developed an addiction. An addiction to Pinterest. It's awful, it takes up hours of our time scrolling and pinning and has started to make our heads hurt from overflowing ideas.

Slow Cooked Indian Beef Curry

It's that time of year again. The slow cookers are dusted off and have once again found a place on the bench top. This dish is a beautiful change to the normal soups and casseroles that are no doubt filling up your winter menus.  If you don't have a slow cooker, don't worry. I cooked this in a casserole dish in the oven and it was perfect.

Rainbow Cake

You have probably been living under a rock if you haven't noticed the sudden wave of Rainbow cakes taking over the internet.

Decluttering - Cleaning Kit

I often fall behind with my household chores. Between juggling work, DJ,  meals, washing and everything in between, some things seem to just pile up. This means that I usually have to spend a whole day at the end of the week doing household chores when I would much rather be spending the time doing something with DJ.

Chicken, Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto

Has Masterchef scared the absolute crackers out of you when it comes to making risotto? Are you like me and a total rice phobe? Never fear because like most things it really isn't as hard as it appears.

Chocolate Tart with Baileys Cream

Someone just can't wait.
My bestie has been nagging me to put this recipe up. So I figured I would push it up the list and post it now rather then have to a potentially crazy chocolate craving pregnant lady banging down my door (Love you Sarah!)

Decluttering - Step 1: Organisation

Still have to spend some time prettying my whiteboard up
Here it is as promised. Once a week as I start to slowly but surely clean up and clear out the clutter from my house I will be sharing my little journey with you.

Thursday, 31 May 2012

Homemade Meatball Sub

How many of you go to Subway with the intention of being healthy but instead find yourself ordering a meatball sub? Especially on those colder days when salad just ain't gonna cut it.

Monday, 28 May 2012

The Best Chocolate Brownies

How brilliant is it when you find the perfect brownie recipe? These are by far the best brownies I have ever made in my life. A nice crusty cake like top with a thick fudgey centre. It was definitely hard to share these ones.

100th Post - Coq Au Vin Revisted

To celebrate my 100th post (101 actually but ssshh whose counting?) I decided to revisit my first blog post, a failed attempt at Coq Au Vin.

Decluttering - A Journey

Yes this is what my lounge room looks like almost every day
When I was younger I used to be really organised and tidy. When it came to cleaning my bedroom, everything I owned had a place. I would vacuum and dust, change my sheets and regularly do a clean out of old clothes.

Thursday, 17 May 2012

Low Fat Chicken Pie

As most of us know, when we start to head into the cooler months many people seem to acquire a little extra padding for warmth.

Monday, 14 May 2012

Creamy Chicken and Gnocchi Bake

The Organised Housewife

Every month I religiously buy Super Food Ideas. I'm not even sure why I haven't bought a subscription yet, I guess its because I find it exciting to go to the supermarket at the start of each month to see if the new issue is out (Sad I know).

Rhubarb and Cherry Crumble

Is your mum a sweet tooth? She will love you all the more this Mothers Day if you whip up this warm delicious crumble.

Rosemary and Mustard Lamb with Fancy Veg

Mothers day is fast approaching and even though I am a mum myself I still intend to do something a little special for my mum.

Kids Apron

Its pretty well know that I have a pretty short attention span. I have seen my two year old son spend more time on activities then I have on certain projects.

Tuesday, 8 May 2012

Lentil Bolognese

There are many people in this world who would never give up eating meat. I am definitely one of those people.

Banana Walnut Cupcakes

This week has just been one of those weeks. You know the ones where you would much rather spend it lying on your bed with the doona pulled well up over your head pretending you're on a warm sandy beach sipping on a pina colada rather then facing reality and the possibility of a death by overdosing on chocolate?

Thursday, 3 May 2012

Chicken and Vegetable Soup

A cold and rainy day calls for something hearty, warm and comforting. For me this is always, always, always soup.

Tuesday, 1 May 2012

Mocha Walnut Slice

This slice has become a bit of a family recipe. I can't be sure how it all came about but I know the recipe originally came from an old Family Circle kids cook book that was given to me by my Aunty when I was about 8.

Chicken Tagine with Olives and Lemon

Notice the Olive are missing?
I bet you will never guess where I had dinner again?
If its Moroccan it really can only be one place. My mums.

Pluto Pups

Pluto pups, also known as a dagwood dog is another treat we have adapted from the Americans, where over there it is known as a "corn dog".

Asian Omelet

Two things surprised me about this dish, 1. That I even made it to begin with and 2. That it was actually really yummy.

Butternut Snap Tarts

I love making anything that requires minimum washing up. That's the one issue I have with cupcakes, it's requires bowls, spoons, measuring cups, beaters, cupcake pan etc!

Garlic Prawn Pasta

My mum has this incredible talent. She can look in her cupboard, take a bunch of ingredients that would never seem to work and turn them into something delicious and nutritious.
She would kill at a mystery box challenge.
